Welcome to Rise of Souls!

Hi, I'm Fluffy. I'm Kayle's rabbit companion and kind of a mascot for the site apparently. Anyway, let us get this Walk-Through over with, hm? Awesome..
Rise of Souls was previously known as The Lost Souls way back when Zetaboards was a thing. We've migrated around a bit (to Invisionfree and Proboards) until we landed here on Jcink and changed the name to Rise of Souls!~ Reason being is a certain Role-Player who will be left unnamed claimed rights over The Lost Souls and moved the community right under Raven's nose without her awareness. So the cool, honorable people split and came here. This is a fresh new start so we hope you enjoy!
Anyway, this guide is for the convenience of all our members to direct both new and old role-players to the mandatory reads and character application documents.

If you have already read the rules, I'm sure you can see that this is not a site for one-liners. To those reading this that are one-liners, I'm terribly sorry, but we do NOT like one-liners. I actually feel that a story truly can't come from one or two sentences of information. Raven want details, length, something to go off of.

Now, we have aspects of the site that are the three F's... We, of course, offer a friendly community where we welcome you with open arms. We love inviting new members into our family. We make it quite easy to come in and be a part of everything.

Fairness is another aspect to this site that we would like to offer. We grade every character application equally. Meaning, staff won't be able to have completely Overpowered characters while members can not. You can start with any type of character you want with any level of strength.
The staff works in a way of 'The Knights of the Round Table' meaning Head Admins and Admins do not have more say over everything than Moderators. The titles are different simply based on tasks around the site.

Here at Rise of Souls, we like to have a bit of fun! We have a Skype chat where everyone is welcome. We may have games in the future via Skype featuring our characters.

  • Be sure to thoroughly read our Rules for an understanding of how we run Rise of Souls.
  • Tiers and Masteries might be a good idea to read as well. They will cover how your characters will be graded and how to allocate your Masteries once you've been accepted.
Chat Box Rules
  • No Advertising. If you wish to advertise your site or affiliate with us, you can find the correct board to do so here.
  • No trolling or spamming.
  • No post/thread begging. If you want role-play threads, see our Member Services board.

Character Creation
  • Our Member Groups section give an explanation of what characters types are allowed and how they're sorted as well as what they're capable of.
  • Alternatively, if you’re looking for some character ideas, check out the Member Services to see if there are any Want Ads for a character you’d be interested in playing.
Members will not be able to play a 'main villain' of the site without talking with the staff first. Most villains will be NPCs that staff control and will be all plot related.

Also, please note that characters can die. For example, If you are a Kishin Egg and you're on a mission to take on the entire DWMA including Death, there is basically no way you would survive that entire battle. Don't put your characters into stupid situations and then God Mod so that they live. Sorry but it can't happen...
Furthermore, Death City is a neutral zone and as such is automatically death enabled.

Rise of Souls uses account per character utilizing Jcink’s sub-account feature;

Register your first account with an Out Of Character alias –updates and messages will be sent to this account. You may then register your character account, and link it to your OOC parent account like so:

  • Log out of your OOC Account and register a second account with your character’s first and last name (if they have one) with the proper capitalization (Example: John Doe).
  • Log back into your OOC Account, go to My Controls ➞ Edit Sub-Accounts, then fill in the username/password forms
  • Voila! You can now freely switch between accounts without logging in/out, using the “Switch Accounts” link within the User bar at the top of the forum.
Ranks
Some of you may notice the 'Rank' on your character Application. I'll explain all that here!
First, I would like to point out that high ranking characters are limited on the site. If you achieve an ML tier character, in order to create another one you will need to ask a member of staff for permission. This member of staff will then convene with at least three other members of staff, who will then discuss whether or not you will be allowed to have a second elite character. Note: Only one character can start at ML-S. The second after that will be capped at ML-A at the start, though you can upgrade them normally.
Meister & Weapon
Meister and Weapon Ranks are as follows:
One Star Meister / D Class - These students are usually of this rank and are battle ready. They are basically the runt of the litter, the small fries of the whole body. People of this class are usually seen taking lower level missions and are still starting out on their partnership with their Demon Weapon.

Two Star Meister / C Class - Meisters of this class have become adequately competent combatants. They are more reliable fighting units that can take on harsher challenges for the DWMA. Level One missions are usually given to them and they have gotten a hold on a good relationship with their Demon Weapon. C Class Students are also able to attempt Level Two Missions.

Three Star Meister / B Class - The Honor Students. The students in the B Class are mainly focused on personal growth and development. They're able to take Level One and Two missions freely.

A Class - The elite out of the rest. These are the top dogs and are given the most important missions that would be considered suicidal to the lower ranks. People of this class can fight competently without their partners. Weapons in this class are usually Death Scythes or at least close to becoming one. Meister and Weapon in this class are skilled when it comes to fighting Solo as well as with their partners.

NOT Class - Individuals who attend DWMA as students make up 90% of the whole population. They lack actual power and attend the Academy to control such abilities to function normally in society. These are what you'd call your "average human". NOT students will not see any action like the EAT students because of this.

Witch / Sorcerer
The Grand One - This is the Witch or Sorcerer who has literally transcended and developed their powers one final step. They can stand against the strongest of any Meister and even Death himself. Their name is literally feared, or honored among the Witches, Sorcerers and even the other races. There can only be one that holds this title and they more then anyone have earned it. - NPC

Divine - Here's where Witches and Sorcerers are beginning to push past their limits and become even more powerful then before. They can stand their ground toe to toe with the Three Star Meister and Weapon teams and aren't to be taken likely. These are divine beings among the Witches and Sorcerers and may end up choosing followers of their own to train and make their own small little clicks. (Limit Four)

Prodigy - These are the magic users who have been pushed to their limits. Their powers basically complete. Most Witches and Sorcerers are lucky to get here but not uncommon, and most likely means they are under the teachings of someone ever more powerful then they are to have come this far. They're on par with Two Star Meister.

Gifted - By this time the magic user has developed their abilities and started to expand their growth developing or just learning their unique powers. They are extremely undeveloped and still can barely hold themselves in a real fight though can defend themselves off from mostly One Star Meister or NOT class students.

Dormant - Witches and Sorcerers who are too young to be effected by the Pull of Magic. They have no magical capabilities yet but are still able to learn as they grow.

Monsters
Monsters can not use abilities outside of monster forms!
(Legion) Imperator - Also known simply as a General, an individual who holds this rank is viewed with the utmost respect and awe by members of the Monster race. It is no small feat to acquire this title, as one must demonstrate power equivalent to Lady Death and Xanthus in order to be seen as worthy of holding it. (Limit One)

(Legion) Legate - Otherwise known as Lieutenants, Monsters who hold this prestigious title are among the most feared and respected of their kind. Commanders within the Legion, these Monsters answer only to the Imperator himself and are typically hand-selected by him. (Limit One)

(Legion) Sentinel - The armed forces of the Monster race, the Legion is composed of those who are willing and able to fight for the continued well-being and prosperity of the race. The typical member of the Legion stands at the level of a Two Star Meister at the DWMA, though the precise level fluctuates between members. (Unlimited)

Monster Those who are not a part of the legion do not get ranked.

Kishin (Egg)
Kishin Eggs currently hold no ranks.
Humans
Humans currently hold no ranks.
Application
  • Look over our Character Templates to find the application template to create your character.
If you’ve never used a HTML application form before and you’re not sure what to do, don’t panic! Shoot the staff a message and we’ll be more than happy to assist with putting the form together.
  • Whether it’s a work-in-progress or ready to be reviewed, post your application in the Character Creation
  • Be sure to tag the app as a [WIP] if you’re still working on it. Once you’ve finished, post in the thread to bump the topic and remove the tag from the title/topic description!
  • Applications usually take 1 – 3 days to review, if there are any issues we will private message the OOC account you signed up with. If, for any reason, you’ve been waiting for more than 3 days for your application to be reviewed, feel free to PM a staff member and inquire into the status of the app.
Application grading is not strict and you can create any kind of character you like. You're even able to pick your own rank. However, if the rest of your application doesn't live up to the expectations of that rank, you will be asked to make some changes or lower your rank a bit.
Two staff members must approve your application before you can allocate your masteries and begin role-playing. Furthermore, if at any point a staff member deems your app needs adjusting before role-playing can continue, you may be subject to some minor changes.
Once Accepted
  • Congratulations! You can discuss ideas for plots in the Member Services forum, post up a Thread Tracker to keep track of all your threads or look through the Role-play section to find Open Threads to join!
As a Witch, Sorcerer or Kishin, if there are any customized locations you wish to see in your forums to Role-Play, PM an admin and we will add them for you if it makes sense.

Getting Started
If you've never been on a role-play forum before, you should know that there is a posting order. Here is an example:

Character A makes a thread
Character B joins it.
Character A posts
Character B
Character A
Character C jumps in
Character B posts
Character A posts
Character C posts

If a role-player fails to post within two days, they can be skipped. If a week goes by without any activity on the thread, it will be at risk of being declared dead.
Kishin and Witches can't post in DWMA without a legitimate reason. Such as a mass attack on the academy or staff giving permission to co-exist with them.

The entire series of Soul Eater revolves around the use of a meister-weapon team hunting down evil and corrupted souls. BUT, you only roleplay one part of that team. There's still another, very important part missing. How do you gain that other part?

Well, first off, we ask you don't role-play a full team by yourself. It can get very boring and dull after a while if you're role playing by yourself. Missions would be difficult and it just...won't work out well for ya, lol.

To get a partner you need to role-play and meet new people. The more new people you meet, the more chances you have at finding someone without a partner who can work with your character. You can also arrange to partner up via chat box but you have to role play their meeting and decision to become partners. Keep in mind that not just anyone can pair up. It would be good to keep your character's fighting style and personality in mind. You wouldn't want to pair up a lone wolf with a prep who loves getting into anything involving crowds.

While some personality differences work, some don't. You really need to figure out who will help your character out the most. If you have two characters who work well together, bringing out each others strengths and able to cover any flaws, then that's the characters you want to be partners. It's not like you have to be a married couple or perfectly compatible but you just have to be able to work well together.

There are actually two ways you can get a partner:
-Find one through role-play
-Create characters with someone where they're already partners

The first one is rather self-explanatory. Role-playing with other people you gain friendships and develop close bonds with other characters. The stronger a friendship you gain with others the more likely you're going to be able to have a partnership with that character. However, not everyone is able to resonate and work together. This may apply to those of you who wish to have a one-time partnership: you'll have a 65% chance that you can't work well with someone and not everyone can be your 'partner' keep that in mind if you decide to be an Excalibur wannabe. That being said you don't have to keep the same partner forever.

Once you've found a partner, alert a Staff member and edit your character bio to say that you have a partner. It really helps. After a Staff member is notified they will give you a profile title field with the name of your partner.

On a side note, having two partners isn't rare or restricted, but it will have to be closely monitored. Too many double-partnered characters and it will have to be restricted.

If you have any questions about how to gain a partner, what to do when you get a partner, contact a Staff member.

For a list of available classes as well as their instructors, they are listed here.
Classes are pretty simple here. There are no specific subforums for each class but you're able to attend a class if an instructor posts one. Class threads should have names related to the actual class. There should be class threads up at least once a month unless the thread carries on for an extended period of time.

Character Development
I know some of you may want the laid back aspect of the site where there is no combat or action, am I right? Regardless, every character needs some kind of development. I encourage you to plot with other members, build relationships with other characters and improve your masteries.
Developing a character doesn't have to be a tedious task. If you role-play casually, you can still earn enough Death Bills to buy new skills or upgrade your masteries. If you increase your masteries enough times, your tier will go up as well!
Alternatively, you could give your Death Bills to a friend or move them between your characters depending on which one you want to improve. If you choose, you can also just horde Death Bills and do nothing with them but that's boring!
Death Bills
Death Bills are used to upgrade your character in various ways. This means Soul Resonances, Spells, Soul Wavelength Attacks and Items or Accessories! Every character can upgrade!
DEATH BILLS INFORMATION:
  • You earn Death Bills for every RP post you make on RoS! (This does not include the Mission Board).
  • Death Bills can be transferred to different accounts that belong to you or you can send them to a friend in need.
  • Training is required for every new Ability you buy. This includes Resonances, Spells and Soul Wavelength Attacks. This means you must actually practice the new ability before you can actually use it correctly in battle. Training Sessions can be made in Death Weapon Meister Academy or the Witch Haven. It is advised to leave Training Sessions private. Send invites to some other Witches/Meister & Weapon Teams so you don't have people randomly jumping in to your training.
Store
The Store has many fun features. This is where you can buy new abilities and spells as well as mastery upgrades. Taking part in lotteries and events may earn you various items from the Store. The misc items are to be used in the (S)Witch Caulderon. You give them to the Witch and she turns them into another item. You can keep giving her your items until you get one that is desirable.
Training
So, you’re technique was approved, and now you’re looking to use it, right? Well, time to train then!
Training a technique is simple: post a thread demonstrating clear effort towards the technique. That being said, you can type as much or as little as you think is necessary. These training post can consist of any number of things: practice using the technique, honing specific skills required for the technique, attempting to use the technique in a sparring match and on occasion, mental training (like meditation) can work as well.
Once you’ve completed your posts, link the thread in the Tag Box or PM a staff member to take a look at it. Upon confirmation that the thread is completed and has been approved, the skill will be added to your character's application. Then you're all set and ready to use your new technique at any time!

Mission & Bulletin
As can be expected, not all the missions will have the same level of difficulty; some will be relatively easy while others will be insanely hard. This is not because the staff or the site favors certain races or people, but more because its an unfair world and if you wanted fairness, you shouldn't have attempted to interact with the rest of society.

In descending order of difficulty missions can range from:

  • Level One - These can barely even be called missions; there is very little chance of death and it is more about the mission taker showing staff that they retain the ability to type up a quality Thread.
  • Level Two - This is where one will find a majority of missions listed. Here, one can expect death to occur, assuming they are not careful. These missions expect a certain degree for both combat and story-telling from the mission-taker, but assuming they are a skilled enough Rper, it is possible to complete them without ever having to fight.
  • Level Three - At this point, give up all hope of getting through this mission peacefully; this is about proving yourself top dog over whoever is conducting this mission. Either the individual conducing the mission or the mission-taker is stepping away from this confrontation alive. Try not to die.

Each mission can involve different races, different settings, and different scenarios, so naturally, there are different requirements as to what each mission has for requirements. These will give you things like minimum tier, your opponent, and anything else you might need to be be or have.

Due to the sheer volumes of differences that exist between the races available, one can never expect the content of their missions to be the same. As such, it is only logical that just as the content of the mission must be different, so too must the guidelines and restrictions placed upon the mission's NPCs and event itself. It is worth noting that the higher the difficulty of the mission, the less restrictions one will find on the NPC conducting the mission.

If you have any questions that the documentation listed hasn’t answered, check out our FAQ beforehand.
